Sreang Heng, the president of PEN Cambodia and a celebrated scholar, has written extensively about the socio-political challenges facing Cambodia. In recent years, he has authored several academic articles relating to 'Justice in Cambodia', ‘Buddhist Monks’ Participation in Social and Political Affairs in contemporary Cambodia’, and ‘Influence of Korean Pop Culture on Cambodian Society today’. Since 2009, he has carried out an independent research project looking into ‘politics of land concessions and economic development in Cambodia’ focusing mainly on how deforestation and land clearances affect Cambodia in the long run.  While Mr. Heng was still in Cambodia, he was continually threatened for his negative commentary about the Cambodian government’s repression of human rights.
