Mona Elswah

Mona Elswah is a DPhil candidate at the Oxford Internet Institute (OII), where she examines the nexus between digital repression and movements’ tactical innovations in the Arab World. She is also a researcher and a core member of the Computational Propaganda project (COMPROP) with a focus on the MENA region and authoritarian regimes. Her work focuses on disinformation in non-Western contexts, including Russia, Iran, and Arab countries. Mona is also a public speaker in digital rights and is currently leading COMPROP’s capacity-building efforts, linking the project to several civil society groups worldwide.

Her work has been featured in several international media outlets including the BBC, the Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal. Before joining the OII, Mona was awarded a Ford Foundation fellowship to study at the American University in Cairo. She has a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication and a Graduate Diploma in public policy.
