Isabel  Ebert

Isabel Ebert is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Business Ethics, University of St. Gallen, and serves as a Strategic Adviser to the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights B-Tech Project, focusing on Business & Human Rights in the technology sector. Her research explores regulatory and policy responses to emerging human rights challenges connected with technology company conduct and implications for policy coherence. 

Isabel received a PhD in Business Ethics from the University of St. Gallen. Her empirical PhD analyzed the response process of companies to data disclosure requests by governments in fragile state settings. During her PhD studies, Isabel has been a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford’s Oxford Internet Institute and conducted research as a member of a multi-disciplinary Swiss National Science Foundation project on digital workplace monitoring practices and impacts on employee privacy in cooperation with the Institute for Work and Employment Research, University of St. Gallen. 

Prior to entering academia, Isabel served as the EU Representative of the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre in London, UK (2014-2018), after gaining first work experience at the German Embassy to South Africa, the Mayor of Berlin and the Goethe Institute New York City. She holds a M.A. in International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies from Goethe University Frankfurt and a B.A. in Politics and Management from University of Konstanz and Sciences Po Paris. Isabel is a board member of the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre.
