Hemakshi is a Master's in Public Policy student from India. She has worked in the education and socio- political space in India for 4 years in various capacities. During her time as a Teach For India and subsequent work with children and disadvantaged communities, she faced and lived the inhuman realities of poverty and inequality. At Kennedy School, she is focusing on political and economic development, adaptive leadership and spent her summer with BRAC, Bangladesh to increase legal access for women.
Hemakshi is very passionate about issues of gender and education, and particularly wants to work with adolescent girls to break away from some deep rooted patriarchal structures of Indian society, and cultivate in them a sense of hope and agency. In the long term, she wants to join Indian politics, be a part of systemic change, and engage in work that aligns head, heart and hands towards creating a more equal democracy.
