Enrique Gasteazoro is a Mason Fellow and MPA Candidate at the Harvard Kennedy School. He is currently on a leave of absence from his role as General Manager of Nicaragua’s leading quality independent journalism outlet, Confidencial. His main focus since the outbreak of a severe political and human rights crisis in Nicaragua in April 2018 has been to help enhance the impact and safeguard the viability of journalism in the face of all-out state censorship and a crumbling economy.

Enrique has previously worked with Dutch civil society on issues of economic empowerment, human rights and responsible business in Central America. Fair labor relations in large-scale agriculture, smallholder farmers’ land rights and the defense of civic space from the attacks of the Ortega-Murillo regime have motivated his role as an activist. He holds a B.Sc. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, with a concentration in Culture and Politics, and International Development.
