artsathksArt for Social Change and Innovation examines how art has been an effective medium for positive social change and innovation.

Diane Borger has been the Producer for the American Repertory Theater where she has been since 2010. Previously she worked in London at the Royal Court Theater and the National Theater Studio of Great Britain.

Chanel DaSilva is an Artist in Residence at the Harvard Dance Center. She is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of MOVE(NYC), arts organization providing tuition-free dance and leadership instruction for NYC teenagers.

Ifeoma Fafunwa is the founding creative director of iOpenEye Ltd, a Nigerian production company driving social change through performance art.

Doris Sommer is a Professor and the Director of the Cultural Agents Initiative at Harvard University. Her academic and outreach work promotes development through arts and humanities.

Cecily Tyler is the founder of Docutribe Inc, a nonprofit organization that seeks to activate social change, and celebrate art and community through filmmaking. She is a 2016 MC/MPA graduate from HKS and is a Research Fellow with the Ash Center at Harvard Kennedy School.

Giving opening remarks will be Dean Douglas Elmendorf who is the Dean and Don K. Price Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School.

Kat Geddes is a poet, writer, and a research fellow at Harvard Law School. She will be reading one of her pieces as an introductory performance.

Our moderator for the discussion will be Timothy McCarthy, who is a Lecturer of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy and the host and director of A.R.T. of Human Rights.

Harvard Kennedy School’s Arts and Culture Caucus presents arts@HKS – a series of panel discussions exploring the role of arts and culture in the public sphere. The panelists are incredible artists and leaders from academia, nonprofits and government institutions. Each Wednesday afternoon for the next two weeks, the caucus will host these talks from 4:15-5:45 pm at the Harvard Kennedy School. After each panel discussion, we will continue the conversation in an informal manner at a nearby establishment to be announced at the event.

These talks are supported by the Kennedy School Student Government, The Social Innovation and Change Initiative at Harvard Kennedy, the Center for Public Leadership, and the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard Kennedy.
