 and other UN experts have called on the U.S. government 'to take decisive 
 action to address systemic racism and racial bias in the criminal justice 
 system by launching independent investigations and ensuring accountability
  in all cases of excessive use of force by police.'&nbsp\;\n\n\n\n	Read the

 , the international human rights organization working globally for freedom
  of expression in October 2004. She has had a distinguished career in huma
 n rights and humanitarian work. Agnès is a former Chef de Cabinet for the 
 Secretary General of Amnesty International and\, as the organization’s Res
 earch Policy Coordinator\, led Amnesty’s work on women’s human rights. Agn
 ès has conducted human rights investigations in a large number of countrie
 s in Africa\, Asia\, and the Middle East. She founded and led HAP Internat
 ional (the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership) where she oversaw fiel
 d trials in Afghanistan\, Cambodia\, and Sierra Leone\, and worked extensi
 vely in the field of international refugee movements with the Center for R
 efugee Studies in Toronto. Agnès&nbsp\;is also a UN Special Rapporteur on 
 extrajudicial\, summary or arbitrary executions. She has written on and be
 en published widely in the fields of human rights\, women’s rights\, refug
 ee movements\, and accountability. Agnès&nbsp\;holds a PhD in political sc
 ience from the New School for Social Research in New York.\n\n\n\n	Sushma R
 aman&nbsp\;is Carr Center's Executive Director. Sushma brings a rich and d
 iverse background in philanthropy\, human rights and social justice throug
 h her work in the U.S. and globally with the Ford Foundation and the Open 
 Society Foundations\, as well as her experience leading human rights progr
 ams\, philanthropic collaboratives\, and social justice foundations.&nbsp\
 ;Sushma’s upcoming book\, co-authored with Bill Schulz\,&nbsp\;The Coming 
 Good Society: Why New Realities Demand New Rights\, looks at the coming ch
 anges to the human rights landscape and argues that rights must adapt to n
 ew technological and scientific realities or risk being consigned to irrel
